About Sebastian Beaumont
Sebastian Beaumont is the owner and winemaker of Beaumont Family Wines in Bot River, in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. Born in Bot River shortly after his family bought the historic Compagnes Drift farm in 1974, Sebastian returned to the family fold in 1999 after years of travel and study, taking over winemaking from 2004. The farm, once an 18th-century Dutch East India Company outpost, is home to the region's oldest wine cellar. Using simple, old-cellar techniques — natural fermentation in concrete fermenters and mostly older oak — Sebastian captures the purity of vines over 40 years old, and his Hope Marguerite has become one of South Africa's benchmark Chenin Blancs. Today he runs the farm together with his wife, Nici, crafting characterful Chenin Blanc, Pinotage, Syrah and Mourvèdre that proudly express their Bot River origin. 🍷 www.beaumont.co.za
